On Saturday night Alcala de Xivert celebrated the most awaited moment, the Grand Carnival Procession. A pleasant temperature accompanied the participants and the crowd of people who were in the sambodrome and all along the route enjoying the spectacle.
The procession was led by the Cocoloco band with their music and animation, warming up the atmosphere of the night, followed by the first group which came out of the sambodrome, Fusion, whose clothing was inspired by music, with a piano keyboard as a hat as well as lights and musical notes in the fantasy design of their costumes.
La Piña took inspiration for their disguise from the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, accompanying it with music in her honour, skirts with flounces and a bright golden ‘body’.
The 2019 Carnival again surprised with its originality in the choice of themes for the costumes with some colourful sea horses which burst into the sambodrome to the rhythm of “Arre, arre, caballito”.
The sea theme was also the inspiration for the Cada 2x3 group, with some original coloured marine reefs in blue with orangey tones.
La Flapa appeared at the climax of the procession with some very lively birds and well-prepared choreography, spreading their colourful red plumage to the music’s rhythms.
Members of the De tot un poc group also chose birds, on this occasion, owls, dressed in rose coloured velvet skirts.
UTE put on a great show, entering the sambodrome rhythmically and with a firm step, displaying a smart appearance in white and black with a touch of red.
The La Risa group transported the crowd to ancient Egypt, with a fantasy interpretation of the pharaohs, with coppery colours combined with blue.
CSR opted to become warriors with a lot of “brilli-brilli” in silvery colours on a white ‘body’.
Some witches in pink and purple tulle skirts were next from the sambodrome. It was the Deluxe group, displaying their best clothes for the occasion.
Ending the night’s procession were Som els que estem, the largest group this year and also the one charged with accompanying the 2019 Carnival Queen, Patricia Llorens. Her costume was inspired in Paris to the rhythms of Moulin Rouge.
The grand ball took the fiesta to the Espai d’Oci, and well into the early hours of the morning enjoying the atmosphere right up to the last minute. But it will be a momentary farewell, as already participants have the next weekend in their sights when they will again shine in their costumes through the streets of Alcossebre to bring this year’s carnivals finally to an end.
