Alcala-Alcossebre welcomes the XIV Biodiversity Week

For four days, explorations have been carried out in the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park to catalogue the wild flora and fauna species

During the week of 10th May 2019, Alcossebre hosted the XIV Biodiversity Week organised by the Valencian Generalitat, the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and the Alcala-Alcossebre Council.  It started on the Monday with explorations in the Sierra d’Irta aiming to study the wealth of wild species in the area, involving experts from different disciplines.  A total of 228 species of terrestrial fauna were catalogued, 206 species of marine fauna, 618 species of terrestrial flora, 185 marine flora and 93 species of fungus.  This information will be used to form part of the Valencian Community Bank of Biodiversity Data which is currently the largest compilation of data with free access via the Internet on the geographic distribution of the wild species in the Community.  It can be found on line at http://bdb.gva.es

 

The autonomous Environment secretary, Fran Quesada, the provincial deputy for the Natural environment, Toni Cases, and councillor Alejandra Roca emphasised  the importance of the work together with the administrations to carry out actions such as this, which contribute to the care of the environment through knowledge.
