Alcala-Alcossebre Council is asking for the green light to proceed with a new interpretation centre in the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park
It is eighteen months since the General Management of the Natural Environment of the Valencian Generalitat took any steps to make it possible

Alcala-Alcossebre Council has gone back to repeat its offer to cede municipal land to the Valencian Generalitat for the new Sierra d’Irta Interpretation Centre to be located and asked for the processes to be started to make it possible. The first contacts between the Council and the park management about this matter, go back to 2016. In November 2017 there was a meeting in Alcala Council, attended by the Natural Environment director general, Antoni Marzo, in which he looked favourably at the Council’s proposal, the good location of the land – at the entrance to the park along the coast -, ease of access with the possibility of vehicle parking. They also dealt with various formulae to take the project forward, such as the Council ceding the land and the construction being undertaken by the Valencian Generalitat.
As nearly eighteen months have passed with no further indications about this matter being received, the Council has repeated its offer in writing and has requested that “you let us know whether the interest continues on the part of the Valencian Generalitat and, if so, that the processes should start to carry it out as soon as possible”.
The Mayor Francisco Juan reminded that this “land owned by the municipality is ideal to accommodate a new interpretation area and visitors’ reception for the Natural Park and, in fact, was acquired in 2000 for this purpose” and he urged that “on the part of Alcala-Alcossebre, we are going to provide all the facilities to make this new interpretation centre, which would mean adding value to the Park in our municipality, a reality. All we are waiting for is that the Valencian Generalitat has the same interest”.
