Alcala-Alcossebre Council continues its campaign for there to be direct access from the municipality to the AP-7, in view of it being made toll-free from 2020

According to the Valencian Generalitat, a follow-up committee has to evaluate the best solutions for connectivity but has not confirmed whether they will respond to this request.

Alcalà-Alcossebre Council has received no news about its request that there should be a new access to the AP-7 in the municipality, in view of the AP-7 being made toll-free from January 2020.  In July 2018 the council approved an institutional declaration in which it requested the Valencian Generalitat and the Ministerio de Fomento to include this proposal in the Connections Plan to be applied after the liberalisation of the motorway.  As the institutional declaration showed, for the municipality to have a new access to the AP-7 would mean a reduction in the number of vehicles using the section of the N340 which passes through the municipality; create a direct access thus providing a structural backbone with connectivity with the rest of the province; add value to Alcala-Alcossebre as a first class tourist destination and facilitate access and connectivity to the El Campaner industrial park.  On the part of the Valencian Generalitat, they replied indicating that they had not yet formed the follow-up committee for the AP-7 between the Generalitat and the Ministerio de Fomento which has to study the solutions for the improvement of connectivity.

Last November, the Mayor Francisco Juan again wrote to the Public Works General Management to urge his request but has received no reply.  “We do not know if the fact that the government in Madrid has not been formed is influencing this and therefore the Follow-up Committee has not been formed but we would like our request to be taken seriously and that they would listen to our requests.  For Alcala de Xivert, to have access to the AP-7 is essential, at an economic level and also for safety on the roads” the Mayor insisted.

On the other hand, the Council has also received no news regarding the project to improve the N340 where it passes through the municipality, at the point knows as El Coll (the hill).  “According to what was confirmed during a meeting held in 2018, the Valencian Community Roads Demarcation office confirmed that the project had been expanded and that it was pending engineering supervision but, for the present, it had not been set in motion and, therefore, we will continue requesting it” the Mayor said.
