Alcala-Alcossebre continues its tendency to see  tourist occupation increasing, confirming that development of policies for spreading information about the destination and cooperation with the local tourism businesses carried out by the Tourism Department is good.  The tourist occupation index during July reached 85.8% compared with 82% the previous year, 2018.

Regarding requests for information registered in the three Tourist Offices in the municipality, these also have increased compared with last year.  In total, 6,905 were recorded compared with 6,509 in 2018.  1,093 of these requests asked for information about the area, 358 were interested in cultural activities, 327 in walking routes, 316 about transport and 264 about leisure.  There was also increased interest in the activities to do with the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and mountain bike routes.

The majority of people who visited the Tourist Offices were from France, in the case of foreigners, with a total of 657.  British visitors were next with 91, Belgians with 30, Italians with 29, 15 Dutch, 13 German and 10 Russians.  National tourists were predominantly from the Madrid area with 675 requests for information, 312 Valencians, 260 from Aragon, 246 from the Basque area, 183 Catalans and 145 from Navarra, among the most prominent origins.

Mayor Francisco Juan said that “we have to value this information very positively as it shows that we are a preferred tourist destination in the province and that our hotel infrastructure is working to offer quality and good service”.  He added that “we are working not only so that our hotels, apartments and camp sites record a good accommodation occupation rate during the high season but that to consolidate a wide programme of annual tourist activities which are contributing to attract visitors throughout the year and with interests based on the heritage and nature, so we shall go on working along these lines”.
