Presentation ceremony for the 2019 Alcala de Xivert Festeras
The town is completely immersed in the Patronal Fiestas in honour of Saint John the Baptist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Alcala-Alcossebre is well into its patronal fiestas in honour of St. John the Baptist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, following the celebration held on 24th August presenting the 2019 Festeras: Mara Cabezas, Elsa Cherta, Belén Vinuesa, Dunia Bort, Alba Barceló, Selene Martí and Miriam Bosch. The event took place in Alcala Church square, with the magnificent back-drop of the parish church façade and had as its theme the traditions of Alcala de Xivert, with moments involving those such as the proclamation, the traditional dances group, the Crida a la Festa (Call to the Fiesta) and the performance of a song dedicated to Alcala de Xivert. The Saint Cecilia Musical Association was charged with opening and closing the event, beginning with the performance of a Moorish March, and ending, as is traditional, with the Valencian Community Anthem. The local giants, Empar and Joan, which have been restored this year and their clothing renewed, presided over the scene and were also the protagonists of a video together with the festeras. Two local young people, Amalia Cucala and Javi García Pitarch, were the presenters. The 2018 festeros and festera went on stage remembering the good moments of their reign and wishing everyone happy fiestas.
In his speech, Mayor Francisco Juan thanked “those who work so that we can enjoy the fiestas every day: those who are dedicated to security, to taking care of us medically, to erecting and taking down stages and to getting up early to have everything ready”. Juan also appealed “to the uniqueness of our municipality which is what makes us great” and invited residents “to forget the little day to day problems and enjoy the fiestas”.
The event was attended by senator Salomé Pradas, provincial deputies María Jiménez, Vicent Sales, Susana Marqués and Maria Àngels Pallarés and Mayors, councillors and representatives from neighbouring municipalities.
On 25th August at 19:00 hours, another outstanding event took place: the Fiestas Pregón which was dedicated this year to representing the principal local festival events. The fiestas continue in Alcala de Xivert until 1st September.
