Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre is continuing to support the promotion of good environmental practices, by organising the 2nd Environmental sustainability Week.  This time, it will focus on climate change awareness and various activities will be taking place for all sectors of the population.  These activities will start on Monday 23rd September, with an informative talk for residents at 17.30 hours in the Alcala CESAL  On Wednesday 25th, the talk will be held at 17.30 hours in the Alcossebre CESAL.  In both cases, attendees will be made aware of the importance of acquiring habits such as limiting the use of plastics, by reducing, recycling and reusing it, conserving the natural surroundings, encouraging sustainable consumption of foodstuffs and avoiding consumerism in products such as clothing.

On Friday 27th, events will move to the CEIP La Mola and CEIP Lo Campanar, where pupils in the 4th year at Primary level will take part in an educational module on questions related to plastic waste, textiles and the gases which create the glasshouse effect.  Events will end on Saturday 28th with a Clean up day, collecting waste in the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park.  To promote greater participation, there will be free buses which will leave Alcala at 9.00 hours, from the football pitch, and from Alcossebre, at 9.15 from the calle Colón.  The return journeys are planned at 13.30hours.  During the activity, participants will be being instructed in the importance of respecting the natural surroundings.  It is about an event planned to be carried out by families and for all sorts of people.

The Alcala-Alcossebre Council is organising the Environmental Sustainability Week as a forerunner in an attempt to involve the whole population in learning what daily beneficial habits are beneficial for the environment and how they can be incorporated in their day to day lives.  On this matter, Mayor Francisco Juan reminded that “Alcala-Alcossebre in 2015 was already a pioneer with the installation of intelligent containers for organic waste 5 years ahead of the final implantation of the autonomous and European standard for this type of waste which will be effective in 2020 for municipalities of over 5,000 inhabitants and we have been distributing brown bucket to encourage their use”.

On behalf of the Environment, Education and Citizen Participation Departments, leaders Juan Carlos Barceló and Selene Blázquez pointed out that “we are inviting the whole population to participate in the various activities which have been organised, and particularly the Clean Up day”.

The C1-Castelló Nord Wast Consortium is cooperating in the organisation of this 2nd Sustainability Week very positively evaluating “the involvement of Alcala=Alcossebre Council in transmitting the importance of respecting the environment”.
