The Work Xivert. A castle for a town brings together the history of the castle and records the excavations and restoration works and media carried out by Castellón Diputación and the council.

Alcala-Alcossebre Council has edited the work Xivert. A castle for a town which sets out to be a reference manual for whenever information of interest is wanted on the history of the Xivert castle.  The book covers the two decades of excavation campaigns which have brought to light important remains in the enclave, as well as the different restoration, consolidation and added value works, both to the castle and to the adjoining areas such as the village, the arms patio and the Templars cistern.  The work also records the latest discoveries, like the Templars wall paintings, as well as the media action carried out by the Castellón Diputación, making it a tourism-cultural Templars Territory project, which included the new information signage for the castle and the televised series on the history of the Templars, transmitted on the History Channel.  One chapter brings together the actions promoted by the Council to spread knowledge of the historic, archaeological and architectural history of the enclave, like the Castle Days for schoolchildren and the guided visits to the castle.

Residents who wish to obtain a copy of this work, can sign up in the Alcala de Xivert Council, where the process of distributing copies will be explained to them.  The Council will distribute the work to educational centres, associations and cultural groups and will be available, as an information copy, in the Municipal Libraries.

Mayor Francisco Juan said that “Xivert is much more than a castle, it is a symbol for our municipality and, with this work, we want all residents to know about the actions carried out in the last twenty years to recuperate it and convert it into a visited and admired monument”.  Juan recorded “the important effort carried out by the Castellón Diputación, both at the level of archaeological campaigns and in the restoration of the fortress and cultural and touristic promotion, which culminated with the edition of this work”.

Alcala-Alcossebre Council took charge of the investigation and drafting of the book, whilst the Provincial Diputación undertook the cost of the printing.  For this reason, in the event that the number of copies available is insufficient to cover the demand from residents, “we shall ask the Diputación to take on a new print run of copies”, the Mayor pointed out.
