Continuing the development of their Municipal Drainage Plan, Alcala-Alcossebre Council is extending the installations for the collection of rainwater from the Las Fuentes roundabout to the calle Jai Alai. The work, costing 120,000 euros, all from the municipal coffers, has already begun and the new pipes which are being installed can be seen and will optimise the drainage and make it sustainable. These new collection systems will capture the rainwater and take it to the area on the Paseo Marítimo where it will be drained into the land. In the event of heavy rains, the work will prevent accumulations of water which could flood buildings. The work was adjudicated last July but it was decided to postpone the start to avoid problems during the summer season.
Mayor Francisco Juan pointed out that “as in all the actions considered in the Drainage Plan, we are contributing to the modernisation of the drainage network with this work, which will make it as efficient as possible” and he pointed out that “in the Las Fuentes area particular efforts have been made to continue renewing facilities where they had already been found to be out of date and to have problems due to not having a rainwater collection system, as in this case”.
