Mayor Francisco Juan held a meeting on 21sts October with the president of the Provincial Diputación, José Martí, in the headquarters of the Diputación, with the aim of explaining to him various matters of interest for the municipality which would necessitate the cooperation of the provincial body.  In the first instance, Juan reminded him of the uniqueness of the municipality of Alcala-Alcossebre, with two town centres which have different needs.  The Mayor requested that “we be included in any action which the Provincial Diputación might carry out for inland municipalities to slow down the depopulation, assist with maintaining basic services and with the improvement of infrastructures, as the centre of Alcala suffers the same problems as the inland towns”.  Another matter raised was for Alcala-Alcossebre to return to having a presence on the Provincial Tourism Board, as it is one of the most important tourist municipalities in the province.  To this end, Juan explained that “the technical criteria should outweigh the politics when deciding which municipalities should be integrated in the Board”.  Regarding this, the president of the Diputación said that “the work of the Tourism sector, is being carried out by committees and Alcala-Alcossebre will be integrated in the coastal committee, so that it will be present”.  The Alcala-Alcossebre Mayor also talked to him about “the important work carried out by the Provincial Diputación regarding the heritage, both for the Xivert castle and for the Santa Lucía archaeological site, that I am sure will continue”.

During the meeting, the Alcala-Alcossebre Mayor reported to the president of the Diputación that the Council is working on new technical alternatives to be developed on the Las Fuentes beach, to guarantee the environmental quality of the water.  Juan delivered the previous technical report in which these alternatives were proposed, which will make it possible to divert the waters which rise up and from which the contamination came, affecting the Las Fuentes beach and explained that “since 2017, the Council has continued work inspecting and controlling both the sewage pipes and those from private buildings, as well as renewing the network, but it has been very complicated to find the source and this is why we are working on an alternative long term study.  We wanted to explain this to the president of the Diputación today and why we are requesting provincial financial aid for it, in the event of carrying it forward.  We are also requesting assistance from other bodies”.  The Mayor pointed out that “this possible solution will also be explained to all the municipal groups and the Business Association”.

Juan emphasised that “we have passed on questions which we consider are a priority for our municipality and which we are convinced that it is necessary to have the cooperation of the Council and the Provincial Diputación to carry them forward”.
