The president of Cocemfe Maestrat, Ramón Meseguer, visited Alcala de Xivert to see for himself how the works are being carried out to improve accessibility and remove architectural barriers. Accompanied by the Town Planning councillor, José Miguel Martorell, he visited the accessibility improvements carried out in the Social Services building, in the Alcala CESAL. He also checked that they comply with the standard regarding spaces, removal of architectural barriers and the placing of areas aimed at users, he advised on the use of furniture which would be the most accessible possible and would not mean that there would be barriers between the municipal workers and users in future.
He also went to the train station to check the correct operation of the lift which unites both platforms, as well as the accessibility regarding the entrance and exit to the building. Meseguer proposed that accessibility be improved from the parking places reserved for disabled people to the pavement, so now the Council needs to look at what would be the most effective solution.
The Town Planning councillor, José Miguel Martorell, emphasised “the usefulness of this type of visit as the vision of disabled people brings us solutions, not only of a technical nature, but also more human, taking into account questions related to the day to day use of the facilities” and he reminded that “our aim is to continue working to remove all the existing architectural barriers in our municipality. A lot of work has been carried out regarding the adaptation of pavements and town centre surroundings and we will continue with this during the next few months”.
