During this 2019-2020 school year, the Local Alcala-Alcossebre Police are adding a new initiative directed at preventing adolescents taking drugs.  The Headquarters of the force has coordinated a programme of lectures to be given in the IES Serra d’Irta on awareness of the 1st ESO to prevent pupils entering into contact with the world of drugs and the consequences of taking them.  These talks, which began this week, are being run by an Official from the Local Police taken on by the Department for Minors and another Official from the force who they consider to be well prepared to give them to the pupils who have recently joined the institute.  The officers have had 12 years to evaluate that “adolescence is a crucial period and we should start prevention at this age.  The problems and disorders caused by drugs are more pronounced among people who start taking them between the ages of 12 and 14 years and normally this translates into poor school work and the premature abandonment of studies”.

Education and Police councillor, Selene Blázquez, evaluated the initiative emphasising that “this is preventative training from the hands of Local Police professionals, on the negative consequences which follow when young people come into contact with drugs”.
