Alcala-Alcossebre Council Education Department is setting up a Book Club for adults which will take place from January 2020 in the Alcala Municipal Library. Literary authors will participate in the Book Club and each meeting will comment on and discuss advances made by members on a determined work which they will have read at home. The sessions will be directed and coordinated by Mariola Nos, cultural administrator, with professional experience as a bookseller and coordinator for the organisation of literary and artistic events in the region. Education councillor, Selene Blázquez, said that “we have a Municipal Library the infrastructure of which we must take advantage and with this Book Club we are offering lovers of reading a space to discuss together everything which reading brings, to know the authors and, all in all, to continue cultivating their love. On the other hand, we want this initiative to be attractive for people who are not used to reading, so that they can start to do it”.
The opening day of the Reading Club will take place on Friday 13th December at 19.30h in Alcala Library with a literary talk by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón who will speak on “The writer, literature and its relation with the reader through the work”. Martínez de Pisón is the author of the book which won the 2015 National Prize for Literature: La buena reputación which will be the first of the works the Reading Club will tackle. Martínez de Pisón has a long career as a writer and scriptwriter, press columnist and literary critic.
The first session of the Reading Club will be held on 15th January at 18.00h. Registration will open from 13th December and the registration form can be completed in the Municipal Library, Alcossebre Municipal Offices and Alcala Council.
