On 25th November, Alcala-Alcossebre Council joined the events for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, by reading the manifesto against domestic violence, remembering the victims – women and boys and girls – registered during this year and calling for zero tolerance of any sexist behaviour. Social Welfare councillor, Marien Traver, read the manifesto remembering that “we condemn this injustice, visualising and making aware that putting oneself face to face with this problem is a task for everyone and the important thing is that women know that they are not alone and they should have no doubts at the time of reacting, using existing mechanisms to do this”.
Afterwards, the exhibition “Dones del meu poble” using old photographs of women in Alcala-Alcossebre, was opened. It gathers together different phrases and literary quotes which tell of equality and of the struggle against domestic violence. The photographic exhibition can be seen in Alcala Council until the 1st December and in the Alcossebre Municipal Offices from the 2nd to the 8th December.
Also, during the morning, Patricia Camp gave a lecture “Ales per volar ben alt” (“Wings to fly high”) in the local educational centres, visualising the capacities of women and inviting them to overcome stereotypes.
The programme, rolled out during November, was completed with actions aimed at making pupils in the schools aware, with the presentation of the guide “What we have to know about domestic violence” and workshops to develop it, and the Women’s Self Defence Course, which began on 16th November in Alcossebre and begins on 30th November in Alcala.
