Fine weather for the Santa Lucía festival celebrations

A large number of Alcala and Alcossebre residents, as well as the local authorities, took part on Sunday in the traditional pilgrimage to the Santa Lucía hermitage to celebrate the festival. During the morning, those present were concentrating on the hermitage’s surroundings, a recently remodelled environment, in addition to the celebration of mass and the traditional procession around the outside of the church.
This year, those in charge of the festivities were the Quinta of 79, a group of friends who had been more than five years on the waiting list, waiting for their turn at taking charge of the celebrations.
As is traditional, the organisers dined and spent the night in Santa Lucía, a custom which “we hope will not be lost”. The organisers describe the experience as “very good”, assuring us that “it is a tradition which allows you to enjoy the fiesta in a different way”. In the same way, the organisers said they were satisfied with the good weather which it was possible to enjoy throughout the morning and which led to great participation”.
Following the custom, the organisers distributed the Santa Lucía pictures, cakes and muscatel to those present.
