Alcala-Alcossebre Council will draw up new internal rules to regulate the use of aeroplanes piloted by remote control, commonly known as drones, by the Local Police. The autonomous ruling already includes the use of this type of new technology to improve citizen security. In the case of Alcala-Alcossebre, the use will enable more extensive, constant control to be carried out for the whole municipality, with its 167.56 sq. kms, and numerous agricultural developments and herds, irrigation wells, geographical features such as dry riverbeds, gullies and the river San Miguel, as well as areas with important heritage wealth.
The new regulations will bring together all requirements, responsibility and training necessary for their use, as well as the property and custody of the pictures taken, which will be treated according to the data protection act. Prior to drawing it up and complying with the regulation, drawing it up was put to public consultation, so that people could submit their possible suggestions.
Alcala-Alcossebre council has approved 4,500 euros remaining from the 2018 budget for this purchase. “We believe that this sort of technology could result in being very useful to us while controlling rural areas, acting as a deterrent measure, preventing robberies and thus reinforcing the work being carried out by the Local Police, Guardia Civil and the rural guard service”, explained Mayor Francisco Juan.
