Castellón airport has ended 2019 with a total of 125,448 passengers, increasing by 7% the previous year’s figure, when there were 117,368. There were also 6,515 aircraft movements compared with 2,445 in 2018, meaning that there were almost three times the number of operations.
Aerocas general director, Joan Serafi Bernat, described the 2019 financial state as, “the airport has returned to the growth path and has established the basis to maintain a rising trajectory in future years”.
He added “We have also achieved important advances in the diversification of activities, having started new businesses which contribute to the development of the infrastructure”.
With regard to commercial traffic, Bernat expressed his satisfaction with the result of the campaigns to win routes which were implemented throughout 2019, “meaning that during the last summer period the best monthly figures were reached since the opening of the airport”. In fact, the highest figure was reached in August with 18,788 passengers.
The campaigns also led to the agreement for six regular connections for the next three years (in 2020-2023): London-Luton, Budapest, Vienna, Bucharest, Katowice and Marseilles. These routes are in addition to the current London-Stansted flights and the summer Bucharest flights. So that the airport has eight regular connections confirmed for 2020, operated by four airlines (Wizz Air, Ryanair, Volotea and Blue Air), which connect with six European destinations.
On the other hand, the Aerocas director stressed the support for the diversification of activities, in accordance with the directives of the airport Strategic Plan.
On this subject, during 2019 two flying schools (Skyborne and BAA Training), opened bases, in addition to Panamedia. An agreement was also finalised with the Euroairlines company to set up an aerotaxi service and a second company has been incorporated dedicated to recycling aircraft, e-Cube Solutions.
Change of management
Joan Serafí Bernat expressed his satisfaction with the process of taking on the management of the airport by Aerocas S A, “which has rigorously developed it, fulfilling the timescale which we set out, without affecting the operation of the airport nor its users”.
In this way, Bernat emphasised the support from the Generalitat, “which is making it possible to consolidate the airport and is contributing to the development and structuring of the territory”.
