Alcala-Alcossebre Council has given the green light to finally approving the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), bringing forward what is required by the regulation for this type of plan although approval is only required from towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants. The matter was approved unanimously.
Mayor Francisco Juan emphasised that “although we are not obliged to have a mobility Plan, we knew it was clear that we had to work to have one in force as soon as possible: on the one hand, to learn what had to be improved in our municipality regarding mobility and transport and because with this PMUS we will be able to select important projects to improve infrastructures“. Preparation of the Plan was financed through municipal resources and the FEDER operations programme with European funds.
Among the questions covered in the PMUS, are the regulation of roads, encouragement of areas for cyclists and pedestrians, promotion of the use of public transport and electric cars and the distribution of vehicle parks. During the preparation process, they followed a broad range of resident participation, with sector meetings, surveys and online forms to make it easier for local residents to put forward their proposals and give their views of how they move about.
The Mayor ended by confirming that “it is our aim to progressively continue implementing the proposals and actions shown in this PMUS. In fact, in the 2020 budget, we already have projects such as the connection with a bike lane and cycle street in the Alcala educational area and sports area”.
