Alcala de Xivert will return this year as a leader in a first-class cycling event, in this case the second stage of the Female Castellón Cycling Tour by CVC.  On Tuesday, Mayor Francisco Juan and Sports councillor, Jordi Batiste, met the race director, Silvia Tirado, to finalise the technical details of the stage which will take place on 29th February.  From the 28th February to the 1st March, the professional female elite of the cycling world will be passing through the roads of Castellón province with 22 professional teams taking part. With six cyclists each, among whom are the Spanish World Tour Movistar Team and international teams from many countries: United States, Colombia, Israel, Belgium, Holland and Germany, among others.  It is the first time this cycling race is taking place, to promote female cycling in the province and raise its profile.

The Alcala de Xivert stage will start from the centre of Alcala, with a neutral exit in the direction of Coves de Vinroma where they will have to face the first climb of the stage.  Later, it will continue in the direction of Tirig with the second prize mountain and pass through Salzadella, return to Coves de Vinroma and revisit Alcala where they will cross the town centre to ride to Alcossebre.  Once in Alcossebre, they will ride towards Las Fuentes to climb up to finish at the Santa Lucía hermitage.  In total, the stage will cover 88 kilometres and, as Silvia Tirado explained, “the climb to Santa Lucía will test the differences among the general classification”.

The Mayor of Alcala-Alcossebre, Francisco Juan, spoke about “our drive to host sports competitions and, in particular, cyclists.  We have already hosted a stage of the Vuelta a España, one stage of the Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana and it is an honour to host a stage in the first year of this female cycle race in Castellón province”.  Juan urged “the large number of cycling fans in the province to take advantage of the presence of the stage and to spend the day in Alcossebre” and he reminded that “this type of event means that many fans will come to our municipality, both on the day of the race as well as on other days, providing  important tourist promotion”.
