The Sports Department is working on Nordic walking as a new activity, within the Mou-te programme to encourage sport.  It will take place on Saturday 15th February, at 16.00 hours in the CESAL building in Alcossebre and the instructor will be Javier Espinosa, an INWA qualified monitor and member of the Valencia Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports.  The day will be divided into two parts: the first theory, during which he will explain what Nordic walking is, what were its origins, the benefits which come from doing it, who can practise it, how the technique of Nordic walking and its variants work.  The second practical part will consist of carrying out a route from the CESAL building to the Alcossebre lighthouse.

The aim is for people to learn more about this type of sports activity, recommended for many different types of people, he will say that Nordic walking can be practised as a variant to walking.  At a health level it is already being applied in programmes for health prevention, in rehabilitation centres and finally at competition level, with different regional championships.

The activity, which will last about three hours, is aimed both at walkers, visitors and anyone who would like to learn the technique of this healthy sports discipline regardless of their age and physical condition.  It is recommended that trekking or sports shoes and comfortable clothing should be worn to carry out physical activity.  If you have them, you could bring walking poles.  If not, the Sports Department will allocate some.

Sports councillor, Jordi Batiste, said that “in our municipality we have a great number of perfect routes for practising this sport, above all the healthy heart routes in Alcala and Alcossebre.  That is why we are inviting all interested residents to start or improve this sports activity, to be more informed and improve their technique”.
