This will be a pioneering facility in the Comunitat Valenciana to guarantee environmental sustainability and for agricultural businesses to comply with all the byelaws regarding the use of phytosanitary products and pesticides

The Alcala de Xivert agricultural sector can already use the new municipal facility aimed at facilitating the cleaning of agricultural machines, like barrels and tanks which come into contact with pesticides and phytosanitary products. The facility has cost 48,399 euros, paid for totally by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council, and it has been built on land owned by the municipality in the El Campaner industrial estate. Mayor Francisco Juan pointed out that “it was the Consell Local Agrari which brought this proposal to us and we thought it was interesting because the agricultural sector is essential for our municipality. By this action we are facilitating compliance with the European byelaw, at the same time as preventing environmental spillages”. The waste which results from washing the machinery is collected in a water tank and then moved to an authorised manager. In the Comunitat Valenciana it is a pioneering public facility and the design and construction of facilities of this type for large agricultural exploitations in other areas of Spain were taken into consideration in its design and construction.
The secretary general of the Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders, Carles Peris, thanked “the Council for its involvement and for listening to the farmers represented on the Consell Local Agrari and for adopting measures to provide solutions to the agricultural world. What we want to do is to progress towards more sustainable agriculture and this facility is a model on this route”.
The wash operates similarly to the way a car wash operates. Farmers who want to use it must register with the Cámara Agraria Local and will receive the access keys and a ticket in order to make it operate. After using it, they must close the area again. Environmental and Agriculture councillor, Juan Carlos Barceló, has appealed for “responsible use of the facility to be made by everyone”. There is a video camera watching the area all the time to ensure that there is no damage.
