Alcala-Alcossebre Council announces a package of financial measures for residents and businesses
Alcala-Alcossebre Council is finalising the necessary process for holding a telematic council meeting in the next weeks which would give a green light to a package of financial measures to assist residents and local businesses who have seen themselves harmed by the crisis caused by COVID-19.

Being considered among these measures is the extension of actions which already exist and of which use has been made in the first weeks of the pandemic to serve the needs of citizens in a particularly vulnerable situation, such as Social Emergency Assistance and the Food Banks. The amount destined to Business Contracting will also be increased, to promote the creation of new jobs and a greater amount will be given to the existing assistance for the renovation of façades and rooves and improving accessibility to homes (changing the bath for a shower) so that more residents can avail themselves of them and more local businesses can benefit. Another amount to be increased will be destined for local business campaigns, to promote buying in the local establishments.
On the other hand, through extraordinary credit, new specific sections will be created driven by COVID-19 like a new regulation to revitalise local financial activities which, because of the lockdown regulations, have not been able to open their businesses or, if they have been able to continue with the activity, have seen it reduced due to the pandemic. The preparation of this new regulation will have a period of public hearing in the Municipal Transparency Portal, through which citizens can make their contributions. Other new sections will be destined for a campaign to promote tourism and for extraordinary purchases and expenses which the Council has had to face, rooted in COVID-19, such as the purchase of protection materials.
“During recent weeks, we have worked intensively analysing the municipal budget, to make the most of assistance sections which already exist to benefit citizens as well as creating new direct assistance for financial activities which have been harmed by this pandemic”, Mayor Francisco Juan explained and insisted that “parallel to the process of all these expedients, so that they can be brought to the meeting, experts have been working to prepare a platform which might permit holding the meetings telematically, with all the legal guarantees”.
Among the measures adopted to reduce the negative financial effects of COVID-19, Alcala-Alcossebre Council has also established the suspension of payment for occupation of the public way for the whole of 2020, the payment to providers for a time less than a month and the postponement of taxes.
