The Psychological Attention Service set up by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council during the lockdown has seen 125 consultations since it was started on the 16th March up to the 20th April.  There have been 105 telephone calls, amongst them being those received from residents, those carried out by the Service itself and coordinated with other resources, and have made 20 text consultations.  The requests have been very varied:  attention in a crisis, problems in families being together caused by the lockdown situation, difficulties among parents complying with looking after the family and visits during the period of the state of emergency, support for managing difficult emotions brought about by COVID 19 and people who have offered support initiatives and have told the Service about vulnerable people they know.

In addition to the telephone calls and texts, this Service is following victims of sexual violence, coordinated with the Local Police and Guardia Civil, communication and following up with the families attended to by the Municipal Social Services Specific Team for Intervention with Childhood and Adolescence, reinforcing attention both for the elderly and more vulnerable young people; guidance is given where young children are in shared custody about exchange of visits, and offer advice to manage difficulties which have arisen from the lockdown situation;  problems of living together, poor use of the new technologies, etc.  They also carry out work coordinating with other professionals in the socio-health sector in the population: medical staff and social workers in the health centres, intercultural mediation, the Asociación de Recursos sanitarios Azahar, etc.

Mayor, Francisco Juan, emphasised that “from the start of lockdown, we have been concerned to offer the best attention to our residents and, through this Service we are able to help them and give them advice which can be adapted to their situation and more in cases of particular vulnerability or where it may be necessary to provide a more definite follow-up, such as victims of sexual violence, young people or the elderly with no family cover”.

Among the general advice to make lockdown the best possible, they recommend setting up routines and timetables, not staying listening to the news all the time, keeping the body and mind occupied carrying out activities which interest them, continuing to maintain social contact with family and friends, discovering new spaces in the house which make us feel good, taking advantage of the sun, asking for help with mental health should it become necessary and supervising and limiting the use of social networks.
