Alcala-Alcossebre Council is studying different alternatives for modifying mobility conditions in some areas of the municipality and combining safety and accessibility with extending terraces in establishments, preparing for moving on to phase 1 of the de-escalation, with effect from Monday 11th May. This will enable terraces to be opened by hostelries, restaurants and cafes. The experts have devised diverse scenarios, taking into account how these changes will affect aspects such as the creation of new pedestrianised areas, restrictions of vehicle traffic, creation of new parking areas, increasing the size of terraces and public street occupation, always bearing in mind that the new health conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic mean that people must use self-protection measures like maintaining a safe distance between passers-by.
“We are focussing on studying what is the best solution so that people can walk about with total safety and accessibility throughout streets, keeping their distance and guarantee access to shops and hostelries and at the same time, places which want to, can be able to increase their terraces”, Mayor Francisco Juan explained. “We are in a new scenario which needs us all to yield and to think now about health and the safety measures are the priority”, he added.
Alcala-Alcossebre Council has already approved the suspension of payment for occupying the streets throughout 2020. Now establishments which want to increase the area of their terraces can present their request to the Council, using the entrance register (electronic or in person with a prior appointment), making an official request with the proposed plan for the increased sizes of the terraces.
