Alcala-Alcossebre Council holds the first “Round Table Discussion” on COVID-19
All the measures taken already, those on which they are working and those which are being proposed were explained
On Wednesday, 13th May Alcala-Alcossebre Council held the first Round Table Discussion, with all the municipal groups represented, to deal with the council management on all matters related with the COVID-19. Those participating in the Round Table Discussion were identical to the information committees, with representation of the municipal groups, and will meet every two weeks. During the Discussion, the different measures which the Council is applying in Phase 1 of the de-escalation were explained and the facilities which are already, or are going to be, opened such as the municipal cemetery, the street market, open air sports facilities and library, as well as the protocols for disinfection of public spaces. It was also explained that the Council is working on a proposal for new movement in public spaces, to combine people’s safety with making it possible for businesses to extend their occupation of public space and it was explained that they are already developing a tourism campaign, with a first phase focussed on motivation and actions, together with local businesses and working groups, and another promotion as a national destination. Regarding trade, it has a bearing on setting up two campaigns to incentivise shopping in shops to facilitate online sales.
With reference to the principal problems facing the Council, Mayor Francisco Juan has stressed that “we lack clear protocols from central Government to be able to make progress on matters which w e would like to resolve now and which are blocked, in the hope that they will tell us in what conditions it will be possible to carry them out and what measures we should adopt”.
As proposals, the Socialist Party has thrown in the possibility that the Council might authorise aide to men and women residents affected by an ERTE (Temporary Employment Regulation File) and can follow training courses to adapt to the new technologies in local establishments. Compromis urged that there should be a virtual platform created for the local shops, as is already being studied by the Business Department.
The municipal representatives had put forward matters such as the future of the patronal fiestas, opening the municipal swimming pool, respect by establishments for pedestrian safe distancing, carrying out possible activities for the users of the Family Respite Unit, if it will be possible to organise the Summer School and what is the plan for organising the workers and employees in the council. Other matters which were touched on were safety measures on public transport, the reopening of the Libraries and the distribution of assistance for pupils with lunch grants.
The next Round Table Discussion will take place on 26th May. In addition to the municipal representatives, the Alcala-Alcossebre Business Association will also be present to discuss directly the repercussion of the actions which the Council is taking with regard to local businesses.
