Nine out of 10 people who have taken the PCR test in the Valencian Community have shown negative for coronavirus

Nine out of ten people who have taken the PCR test to determine if they are infected by coronavirus have shown negative in the Valencian Community.  This was emphasised by the councillor for Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló, who advised that, up to this last Thursday, 106,087 people had taken the test, of whom a total of 95,825 showed negative.  The total number of tests carried out up to now was 182,067 through PCR.

Regarding the tests carried out in Primary Care, between the 11th and 19th May, there were 4,120 PCR, of which 3,815 tests showed negative results throughout the Valencian Community, which means 93% of the total.

On the other hand, during the previous 24 hours there were 173 new patients diagnosed with the coronavirus.  Therefore, with these new cases, the number of people has risen to 10,523 who have already tested for the illness throughout the territory (1,409 in Castellón, 3.841 in Alicante and 5.273 personas in the province of Valencia).  This means 70% of the total of positive cases.

Referring to new positive cases, the up-date this Tuesday had detected 38 new cases through PCR, which brings the total number of positive cases to 10,987 since the pandemic started.  The breakdown by province is as follows:

· 7 in Castellón. Total: 1.506

· 11 in Alicante. Total: 3.828

· 20 in Valencia. Total: 5.648

· 5 unregistered (not new)

Of all the positive cases detected, there are currently 3,249 active, which means only 24.4%.

Currently there are 271 people in hospitals in the Valencian Community, 10 less than on Wednesday this week (22 in Castellón, 83 in Alicante and 166 in Valencia).  There are 39 patients in the ICU throughout the Community, 4 less than yesterday (4 in Castellón, 21 in Alicante and 14 in Valencia).

Since Wednesday there has been 1 new death, bringing the number of people who have died in the Valencian Community from coronavirus to 1,400: 212 in the province of Castellón, 491 in Alicante and 697 in the province of Valencia.

The number of professional health workers is 2,083 and the total number of positive diagnoses among professionals at the moment is 607.

Update of the situation in care-homes

The councillor emphasised that it is the second consecutive day on which no deaths of residents have been registered.  Also, she explained, currently there are some positive cases in 83 centres (11 in the province of Castellón, 34 in the province of Alicante and 38 in la province of Valencia).

Currently, there are 28 care homes under active vigilance for health control in the Valencian Community: 8 in the province of Castellón, 7 n the province of Alicante and 13 in the province of Valencia.
