Alcala-Alcossebre Sports Department is preparing a calendar of sports activities this summer which will be designed to guarantee the necessary measures of hygiene and safety due to the special circumstances of COVID-19.  Following recommendations concerning the benefits of outside sports activities, this year they have chosen, in addition to the classes and those with the usual Latin and Taiichi rhythms, aerobics and yoga disciplines.  These classes will be free and free of registration until the capacity is reached and they will be given in the viewing area on the Romana beach.  They are planned to start in July and continue until September.

Another new event will be sports use in the natural spaces found in the municipality, organising a walking weekend setting up a route which will have information boards along the way and a tourism cycling route another weekend.

Also, there will be a programme with four walking routes through the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park and three mountain bike routes which will lead to Oropesa, Peñíscola and the Xivert castle, starting from Alcossebre.  In every case, they will be activities with monitors and to take part it will be necessary to register in advance in the Tourist Information office and follow the recommendations with regard to appropriate material and maintaining safe distance between those taking part.

“We want to make it possible as far as we can for our residents and visitors to carry out sport taking advantage of our potential in natural resources, and, above all, taking into account the situation we have been living with”, Sports councillor, Jordi Batiste, emphasised.

He confirmed that “due to the current restrictions on organising events with big crowds of people, the sports competitions which we hold every summer cannot take place, such as night beach volleyball, the Chess Championship, the night-time Walk through the Sierra d’Irta or the 5km Race to the Alcossebre Lighthouse.  In the case of the competitions which were organised by local associations, we have already been in contact with them to explain the situation and they have fully understood”.
