Castellon Airport opens up its first national connection with the start of a new route to Bilbao
On Saturday 11th July, Castellón airport started a new route to Bilbao, managed by the Volotea airline, which will be the first regular connection offered from the airport within the national territory. This route, the first operated by Volotea in Castellón, has available two flights a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and is scheduled to operate until 17th October 2020.
To support the inaugural flight, the airport received the aircraft arriving from Bilbao – which brought 102 passengers – with the traditional water arch issued from two fire engines.
Arcadi España, the councillor for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, stated that “this new route opens up a great opportunity for tourism in the Community and particularly in Castellón province. Recuperation in the tourism sector is beginning with the recuperation of the national market”.
The councillor said that the airport agreed with the Volotea airline to substitute the route planned to Marseilles with that to Bilbao this year, “due to the need to adapt to the exceptional circumstances arising from the COVID-19 crisis and the perspectives of the airline and tourism sectors, which show that the reactivation would start with the national market”. In this way, Arcadi España indicated that the “Good reception which the Bilbao connection had been given showed that the decision we took was the right one”.
The councillor has emphasised that in the progressive incorporation of the flights carried out “with the greatest guarantees for protection and health safety for passengers, as well as for airport staff”. She reminded that strict control measures were brought in in the face of COVID-19, in the application of the regulation and recommendations of the competent authorities.
