Alcala-Alcossebre Partido Popular complains about the damage caused by the removal of 8 trains from the Local train timetable

The municipal party has announced a motion in which it requests that the train frequencies are resumed immediately on the Local (Cercanías) line between Vinaròs and Castellón

The PP group on the Alcala de Xivert-Alcossebre Council has presented a motion for discussion at the next meeting in which the Ministry of Transport, Movement and Town Planning Agenda is asked immediately to put into operation all the frequencies of the Cercanías between Vinaròs and Castellón.  It deals with twelve trains, put into operation in November 2018, from which eight have been removed, leaving only four daily trains between the Baix Maestrat and Castellón.

“To maintain this situation would mean a backward step in everything which we have achieved on behalf of the towns in the north of Castellón province, for which we have fought hard and long to have a decent and useful connection with the rest of the province and now that we have achieved it, the government of Pedro Sánchez has ridden roughshod over it” María Agut, spokesperson for the party explained.

The circumstances are that numerous local residents have become used to using the train to get to their work places, for their studies or to carry out administrative or medical actions, both in Castellón and in other towns connected by the line.  “It seems that the Ministry of Development does not understand that during the new normality, people must continue with their lives and go to work or carry out actions and that, if the frequency is not there when September comes, students who travel by train will have to use a car or rent a flat or room, with the financial cost this means”.

The motion also includes asking the Ministry of Transport Movement and Town Planning to reactivate the AVE connections between Castellón and Madrid.  “With the current situation in which we need all the support from the institutions to reactivate tourism and boost the arrival of national tourists, it is unacceptable that it should be slowed down by losing the AVE connection with our province and this is very harmful for us as a tourist destination,” she added.

Agut ended by pointing out that “we hope that all the municipal groups are sensitive to this request and support us to exercise sufficient pressure so that the Baix Maestrat and Alcala de Xivert can return to having a decent train connection with Castellón”.
