Alcala de Xivert Food Bank receives over 2,600 kilos of food from the European Fund for the Most Disadvantaged People

Over 180 of the town’s families in a financially vulnerable situation are benefitting from the food distribution

Alcala de Xivert Food Bank, managed by the Social Welfare Department and the Azahar Association for Health Resources, has received a batch of 2,637 kilos of basic foods from the 2020 Programme of the European Fund for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD).  This year Alcala-Alcossebre Council is part of this programme as an Associated Distribution Organisation which means that the Food Bank can receive two annual batches of goods, worth over 3,000 euros and, in this way, triple its resources.  The food received consists of non-perishable goods such as oil, pulses, tinned food, milk, biscuits, pasta and baby foods.

Social Welfare councillor, Marien Traver, explained that “during the emergency situation, the increase in requests from needy families drove us to ask to become part of the European Fund Assistance Programme, so that we could be able to count on more means so that no family would be without attention”.  Currently, over 180 families are benefitting from the distribution of these foodstuffs.
