Alcala-Alcossebre Council continues to urge the Generalitat Valenciana to make the construction of a new Information Centre for the Sierra d’Irta Natural Park in Alcossebre possible.  In fact, on some municipal land situated in the Cala Blanca area.  Recently, the Generalitat Valenciana director general for the natural environment, Benjamin Pérez Rocher, visited Alcala-Alcossebre Council to meet Mayor Francisco Juan and Town Planning councillor, Miguel Martorell, with the objective of reactivating this project.  The interest of the Council lies in taking advantage of the good situation of this land to locate a building which could be used to promote environmental actions and to encourage the population to participate in all types of initiative relative to environmental sustainability and spreading the natural wealth of the area.

The director general, Benjamin Pérez Rocher, confirmed “the Dirección General’s interest to go forward with the project for the future building which would have to comply with sustainability and energy efficiency criteria”.  Pérez Rocher promised to “go forward with the construction project” although he insisted on “the uncertain situation which the context of COVID-19 means for the administrations”.  Mayor Francisco Juan emphasised that “cooperation from the Council will be total because it is a very interesting project for our population, at different levels, above all environmental but also educational and touristic”.

In 2016 the Council had already started the processes to bring this new facility into being by meeting with the then Director General Antoni Marzo.  Later, in November 2019, the council approved an institutional declaration in which all the municipal groups requested the Generalitat Valenciana to put a section of the 2020 autonomous budgets towards the centre’s construction.

During the meeting, also attended by the present Natural Park director, Aurora Quero, they dealt with other questions relating to the operation of the Park such as the work which is being developed for the material to prevent fires and the measures to be taken by the Park to promote the use of electric vehicles.
