New awareness campaign in Alcala-Alcossebre about the negative repercussions on the local commerce of illegal selling

Alcala-Alcossebre Council, in cooperation with the Alcala-Alcossebre Business Association, has started a campaign to make residents and visitors aware of the negative repercussions on the local businesses which result from purchases from illegal sales stalls.  They are also reminding that when people acquire products from “blanket top” vendors, they are not complying with the Municipal Byelaw for Citizen Coexistence which prohibits this type of action with fines of up to 3,000 euros.  The campaign consists of installing different information posters in Alcossebre which carry the slogan “Friendly, safe and legal: this is our local business”, you are invited to trust the local shops.  Leaflets will be distributed with n of information in Spanish and English, insisting that the local shops guarantee compliance with all the safety and hygiene standards and that taking recourse to illegal sales means that you are supporting organisations which do not comply with the law and which put citizen safety in danger, as well as destroying local employment.

“We want both residents and visitors to be clear that turning to illegal sales means seriously damaging local businesses who maintain their activity completely legally and in compliance with all the safety and health measures guaranteed.  We rely on local business with a wide range of products, are responsible and safe and merit our support as a Council and that of their customers”, the Business councillor, Miguel Martorell, emphasised.

The head of Police, Selene Blázquez, recalled that “we have already modified the byelaw to rely, precisely, on one more tool to prevent illegal purchases, foreseeing fines for the purchasers”.
