Francisco Juan, Mayor of Alcalà-Alcossebre, has sent a letter to the minister of Transport, Mobility and Town Planning, José Luis Ábalos, as a last resort to resolve various matters which affect the municipality and depend on his Ministry and have not been resolved in spite of the council having carried out various actions about them. It deals, precisely, with the request for a new access from the AP-7 in the municipal centre of Alcala de Xivert, the preparation of the Nacional 340 in the El Coll area and that the restrictions imposed by central Government be lifted to allow lorries to travel along the Nacional 340 along the section between Torreblanca and Peñíscola, which results in serious economic harm to local businesses and transport companies.
The request for the new AP-7 access and the N-340 improvement were covered in an institutional declaration approved by the Council in July 2018 which was sent to the said Ministry and the Valencian Generalitat with, up to the present, no communication of any progress for the council. To have a new AP-7 access would mean that less vehicles would pass along the section of the N-340 and thus reduce its danger, centring its connectivity with the rest of the province and the Comunitat; to give value to Alcala-Alcossebre as a tourist destination and facilitate access and connectivity to the El Campanar industrial estate, thus giving it more opportunities for business and generating more wealth for the municipality.
Regarding lorries travelling along the N-340, that was set out in an institutional declaration approved in November 2019 in support of the local businesses and transport companies which are affected, again with no solution for it being adopted by the Ministry.
Mayor Francisco Juan ended his letter stressing that “not only the economic development of my locality but also the safety of men and women residents who have to travel daily along one of the most dangerous sections of the N-340 depend on these matters”.
