Drones watching confirms the respect for safe distancing and the numbers control on Alcossebre’s beaches

Since the end of July, the Local Police have been carrying out aerial control at the busiest times on the beaches without the need to close any of them because there were too many people there
The drone flights which the Alcala-Alcossebre Local Police have been carrying out since the end of July have confirmed that people on the municipal beaches are complying with social distancing and the numbers control. These flights have been made at times when the greatest number of people are all along the coast of Alcossebre and with particular attention to the swimming areas. Using the pictures obtained, it was possible to detect any non-compliance or any risky situations which were happening. Generally, the Local Police confirmed that people on the beaches complied with safe distancing and it had not been necessary to close any of them because there were too many people. Taking into account the dimensions of each of the beaches and the health recommendations regarding safe distancing, the Contingency Plan established a maximum number for each beach resulting in a total of 21,467 users over all the beaches and coves in Alcossebre.
Five of the Alcala-Alcossebre Local Police officers are in charge of piloting the drones owned by the council. These flights will continue being used whilst the beaches are open to the public. They are also carrying out controls in other busy parts of the municipality, to prevent gatherings of large numbers.
Mayor Francisco Juan was positive in his valuation of “the application of new technologies to matters like this, above all in as complicated context as the pandemic” and remembered that “the Council acquired the machines last year and in January this year we approved internal regulations for their use, with the officers carrying out the training as soon as it was possible and their use during this summer has resulted in being very useful”.
