Alcala-Alcossebre Council has had a Local Safety Meeting presided over by the Government Subdelegate, Soledad Ten, and attended by the Mayor, Francisco Juan, the captain of the Vinaròs Guardia Civil station, the commanding sergeant of the Alcala de Xivert station, the Police councillor, Selene Blázquez and the chief of the Local Alcala-Alcossebre Police.

During the meeting the new process for action and coordination between the Guardia Civil and the Local Police was signed for the protection of victims of domestic abuse.  In 2016 Alcala-Alcossebre became a member of the Integral System for Monitoring Victims of Domestic Violence (VioGen) and, with this new agreement, the cooperation and coordination mechanisms were renewed and intensified to continue protecting victims.  Currently, monitoring is being carried out on 18 cases of domestic violence in the municipality of which 4 are being managed directly by the Local Police.  Also, the Council has resources such as psychological attention for the victims through municipal Social Services and to ensure that, when there is a complaint in which young children of the victim are involved, they do not remain neglected and homeless, providing accommodation and food until they can receive resources from the competent bodies.

During the Meeting they also assessed the particular situation caused by the state of emergency which meant that the Local Police were under the command of the Guardia Civil, as well as by the different actions being carried out, such as access controls and the use of masks.  Mayor Francisco Juan emphasised “the exceptional work carried out by the Guardia Civil and Local Police during the emergency and during recent weeks in actions such as the control of the bottle party confirms the current good coordination”.

Regarding criminal incidents during recent months in the municipality, it was confirmed that the lock-down situation meant a radical reduction in crimes such as robberies and domestic violence.  In the case of the latter, however, an upturn has been experienced coinciding with the relaxation of lock-down which is general at a national level.  With the start of the agricultural harvest season, it is planned that there will be an agreement signed between the Council and the Guardia Civil for the Local Police and Guardia Civil to work together carrying out preventive controls and for the Local Police to take control of the traffic in the rural roads throughout the municipality area.
