Alcala-Alcossebre records 79.6% tourist occupation during August

Alcala-Alcossebre Council Tourism Department has evaluated the local tourist season after learning the occupation levels. During the month of August, occupation reached 79.6%, with 74.67% in hotels and 84.56 in apartments. In July, occupation was less with an average of 56.5% corresponding to 51.5% in hotels and 62.5% in apartments. Tourism councillor, Selene Blázquez, said that “reaching nearly 80% occupation during August is very positive as, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forecasts were very negative and we have seen how it has been possible to maintain a good level of occupation, exceeding other destinations with similar characteristics”.
The reasons for this figure, which has meant that the local tourism sector has had a notable number of clients, focuses the faithfulness to the destination between visitors and the repercussion of the tourism campaign carried out during the months of June and July, spread over communication media and social networks and showing the natural and monumental wealth of the destination, as well as compliance with safety measures and preparation by the local establishments. In this connection, the Tourism councillor also added “the good reception of initiatives like the pedestrianisation of the centre of Alcossebre”.
Another factor to take into account is where the visitors came from, as national tourism increased with its percentage reaching 80% of the visitors this year. In the case of the 20% of tourists from abroad, half came from France, 25% from the United Kingdom and the rest from Holland, Germany and Belgium.
“The context of the tourist sector was dealt a blow due to the pandemic and we must adapt to continue being competitive and tell people about our potential and therefore we continued working on new tools which could help us to achieve this”, the councillor ended.
