Alcala-Alcossebre Council finds a solution to the lack of school transport for the Bachillerato and Ciclos Formativos pupils at the IES Serra d’Irta
Alcala-Alcossebre Council will take charge of the financial cost of bus transport for the 22 Bachillerato and Ciclos Formativos pupils who have to travel from Alcossebre to the IES Serra d’Irta in Alcala. When the year began and the problem was discovered, the IES itself communicated with the Education Conselleria asking them to contribute to a solution but they received a reply that they did not undertake paying for transport for pupils on non-obligatory courses. To find a solution to this problem, the Council will finance the total amount of the bus service for these 22 pupils for the next three months, which will mean a cost of 8,000 euros.
The Alcala-Alcossebre Education and Treasury councillors, Selene Blázquez and María Agut, yesterday met the families affected to tell them this solution and they also communicated that the Council will request the Generalitat Valenciana and Castellón Diputación to collaborate to share the cost for the whole year which will reach 25,000 euros. The head of Education explained that “the Council has reacted rapidly to finance the bus service for the 22 affected pupils but we are going to ask for the collaboration of the Conselleria and Castellón Diputación so that it can be a cost shared by the three institutions” and emphasised that “the Council will give all the support to the families although, at a municipal level, we have no education competence” and remembered that “On the council we cannot achieve everything and therefore we are going to ask that both Conselleria and Diputación support us financially as it is a problem which has happened in our municipality and merits the involvement of all the administrations and not just that of the Council”.
