The Alcala Archaeological Museum Collection – CMAG – has received recognition from the Generalitat Valenciana, following the request made by Alcala-Alcossebre Council.  This recognition, the process for which started in 2013, means that the CMAG complies with all the requirements demanded by the autonomous administration, both at a scientific level and for the installations and that, from now on, it will be able to benefit from help and grants to continue enriching its funds and improving its packages.  The collection, situated in the Alcossebre CESAL, has finds obtained during the various archaeological excavation campaigns carried out in the municipality, with particular relevance to the Xivert castle and the Santa Lucía hermitage surroundings.

Culture councillor, María Agut, pointed out that “Since we inaugurated the CMAG, we have held exhibitions showing the educational results of the excavations and the most important pieces”. The visit to the CMAG is included in the free guided visits to the Xivert castle, organised by the council’s Culture Department so that “many visitors have been able to get an idea of our history and heritage by visiting this collection”.  Agut added that “the CMAG and the Ethnological Information Centre at Santa Lucía are clear examples of giving value to our heritage and displaying it as one more tourist and cultural attraction”.  Recently a new excavation campaign ended, financed by the council with expert advice from the Provincial Archaeology Service, in the Cova dels Diablets area.
