Helping victims of domestic violence with large families and single parents, Alcala-Alcossebre Council will increase its section for assistance, bonuses and reduced public prices.  In this way, these groups can benefit from help to access the municipal nurseries, reductions in the taxes for municipal sports activities and for paying for the Summer School, Easter School and guided visits.  Mayor Francisco Juan and Equality councillor, Melina Fradejas, announced this on 16th November during the presentation of actions prepared by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council to commemorate the 25th November, Day of Elimination of Violence against women.  Fradejas pointed out that “we are aware of the financial problems often suffered by the victims of domestic violence and therefore we thought that these reductions could represent important assistance”.  For his part, the Mayor pointed out that “the Council works throughout the year to guarantee attention and safety for victims: we are members of the VIOGEN protocol in cooperation with the Guardia Civil, and we provide psychological support and urge awareness actions, above all among the youngest”.

As the principal action within the programme dedicated to the 25th November, 8 purple benches have been  presented and installed at various points in Alcala and Alcossebre, to make the fight against domestic violence visible and at the same time act as an information resource as they show phrases regarding domestic violence and incorporate plaques showing the 016 telephone number for attention to victims and a QR code which redirects to the web for the State Pact against domestic violence.  As there can be no large gatherings of people due to the safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19,  the Violet Night and the Reading of the Manifest are being replaced by a virtual reading, sending out a video in which the Manifest against domestic violence will be read out on the 25th at 12 noon and to which all men and women can listen via their mobile devices.

There is also a drawing competition for pupils in Primary year 3 up to Bachillerato year 2 with domestic violence as the theme and the IES Serra d’Irta will hold awareness activities included in the special programme: the photographic exhibition loaned by the Isonomía Foundation No+Princesses and the representation Besa’m 2.0 by Pepa Cases
