Alcala-Alcossebre Council is continuing to increase the number of trees and shrubs in spaces in public gardens, through the concessionary company, within the different planting campaigns which are carried out throughout the year, depending on the conditions of each species of tree or flower. In fact, during recent months about thirty different species have been planted. In Alcala, in spring replanting took place in calles Francisco Sospedra and General Cucala, plaza Justo Zaragozà, the roundabout at the entrance to the town, plaza Juan Vilanova and San Fernando park and, more recently, cercis (deciduous trees or large shrubs commonly known as redbuds) in the camino San Miguel. In Alcossebre, different species were planted such as banana palms, palm trees, mulberry trees, Ficus, tipuanas and tamarisk, in spaces such as the plaza Vista Alegre, Avenida Castelló, cami l’Atall in the playa del Moro area, the Las Fuentes recreation area and the Llanera area.
The Services and Environment councillor, Juan Carlos Barceló, valued “the great work carried out by the concessionary company, both in planting and re-positioning so that our parks and gardens are green” and insisted that “they always choose the most sustainable watering systems and maintenance with respect to the environment.
Recently, the three flowers award was revalidated by the Valencian Community’s Towns in Bloom initiative which recognises the work carried out by the council, regarding the care and maintenance of gardens and green areas.
