Alcala-Alcossebre is setting up a digital business hub to increase local businesses’ capacity for negotiations
The Alcala-Alcossebre Business Association will manage it supported by the Alcala-Alcossebre Council
Alcala-Alcossebre has started work on setting up a digital business hub to enable online sales for local establishments, for all types of produce and services, through a website or marketplace. The Alcala-Alcossebre Business Association will manage the setting-up, development and maintenance via a specialist company which has experience in setting up similar initiatives in places in Catalunya and the Valencian Community. On behalf of the Council, there will be financial support so that, within the first year, all the local interested establishments can join with no financial input. It will include specific training so that the businesses can familiarise themselves with the digital environment, as well as technical assistance and promotion and publicity. Each establishment or business will offer its products individually, with autonomy in managing the products, prices and promotions and the platform will make virtual payment possible and despatching the product using a logistics company.
The objective is for the platform to be able to enter into operation in spring 2021 and, for this, in the first weeks of January they will start to carry out information events to spread the initiative among the local establishments, whether they are members of the Association or not.
Mayor Francisco Juan emphasised that “this is an alternative so that local businesses can increase their business negotiations, as they will have a shopwindow to enable this, from Alcala-Alcossebre, to offer their products to the world” and he reminded that there is “close and necessary cooperation between the Council and the Alcala-Alcossebre Business Association”. The president of the Asociación, Jesús Sanmartin, explained that “development of this project started in 2017, with some sessions during which this type of initiative was explained; in October 2019 we made the first contact with the local businesses explaining it and it was during this 2020 when we finally started it going, taking into account that each business was going to have time to develop it, resolving matters both for those which already have a digital presence as well as for those which don’t”.
