COVID-19
All citizens are recommended to self-isolate to reduce the number of positive cases of COVID-19 which is now an extreme risk
On 19th January, Alcala-Alcossebre Council decreed that all municipal activities are suspended and municipal buildings are closed as measures to slow down the high occurrence of infection by COVID-19 which is being recorded in the municipality.
According to data made public on 19th January by the Health Department, in the last 14 days, 73 positive cases have been detected, reaching a rate of 1,092 per 100,000 inhabitants. Also, notification has been given of an outbreak among workers with 36 affected. All this time, the Council has been saying through the municipal social media and the municipal website that citizens should remain in their homes, avoiding social contacts to reduce infection.
The Mayor’s decree to close municipal buildings affects the CESAL in Alcala and the CESAL in Alcossebre, Pensioners’ centres, Espai d’Oci, Casa de Cultura, municipal buildings used by associations, municipal sports facilities including the municipal gymnasiums, the Family Respite Unit, children’s parks, dog parks and recreation areas and the Santa Lucia Ethnological Information Centre. Services for the public in the Council, Municipal Offices, Social Services and the Local Police post will only be available by prior appointment. Controls will be intensified by the Local Police and Guardia Civil as well as the tasks of disinfecting buildings and public spaces. There is also a COVID-19 Round Table Discussion arranged with all the municipal groups, which will be held by video, to deal with the health situation.
The Mayor, Francisco Juan, has indicated that “we are in continuous contact with the health authorities and the confirmation that the majority of the infections continue being in family and social contexts, so that we must be aware that we can only stop these very negative figures by being responsible and limiting contacts to a minimum” and insisted that “on the part of the Council, we have intensified all the actions which are within our power, such as restrictive measures, but it is necessary for everyone to be involved”.
The decree suspending activities and closing municipal building will be in force until 2nd February 2021.
