[Img #81351]The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, following the Roundtable Interdepartmental meeting for Prevention and Action against COVID-19, the extension of the measures in force to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic until the 1st March.

The president justified the decision adopted in that “the evolution of the data is positive” but the situation “is still not good”.  Also, Ximo Puig made allusion to the data and indicators of the impact of the coronavirus in the Comunitat Valenciana, as well as the recommendations of the experts, and to the warning made in Spain by the World Health Organisation that they must maintain the current restrictions.

During the speech, he assured that the restrictions “limit rights and generate unfair situations”, but that “they cannot be relaxed because it would not be responsible”, so that “they will last for as long as they remain necessary”.

The head of the Consell emphasised the great effort made by the Valencian society in the last two weeks which, according to his statement, “has translated into some hopeful results”.

He indicated that during the previous 15 days of restrictions, a reduction of 39% has been recorded in hospitalisations, already less than 3,000, and the number of cases has been reduced by 41%, with a fall of 682 points, which means recording 777 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

He also pointed out that currently hospital discharges “are almost triple” the new cases in the last week, i.e., that for each new positive case 2.5 discharges are being recorded, and in the last 10 days the number of people ill with COVID-19 has reduced by 30,000, as well as the number of those hospitalised by 2,000, in 17 days.

He explained that within in the big cities perimeters at the weekends, the fall in the number is around 40% below the average in the last 15 days.

For all this, Puig has insisted that the measures are working “in a faster way that we could have hoped”, and in this way he urged people to remain hopeful because, according to his statement, “not all the days are the same”.

Taking part in the Interdepartmental Committee Meeting were the Equality and Inclusive Policies vice-president and consellera. Mónica Oltra; the second vice-president for Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture, Rubén Martínez Dalmau; the Justice, Home Office and Public Administration cosellera, Gabriela Bravo; the conseller for Education, Culture and Sport, Vicent Marzà; the consellera for Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló, and the consellers for Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Work, Rafa Climent, and for Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España.

The Resistance Plan and new assistance for the tourist sector

During the press conference, the president made reference to the Resistance Plan with which the Generalitat is trying to compensate the sectors most affected by the restrictions to slow the spread of the pandemic, and reminded that it has over 400 million euros for direct aid.

Puig assured that he understands the difficulties of those affected and therefore he insisted that the Generalitat will compensate them in the “most agile and efficient way possible”, because according to his statement “we must save lives and also save self-employed, small and medium businesses and jobs”.

On this, he announced that on 11th February the Diario Oficial de la Generalitat has published a new package of aid directed at the tourist sector.  The new aid has 18 million euros which are for about 5,000 businesses dedicated to accommodation, travel agencies, restaurants, music festivals and other businesses, and which can be requested from the 22nd February.

Vaccination Process

Regarding the vaccination process, which has been referred to as “the great asset for overcoming the pandemic” and “the door to hope”, the president emphasised that in the Comunidad Valenciana 210,000 doses have already been administered.  Also, he assured that, by the end of this week, 100,000 Valencians will have already received the second dose.

The Consell leader has also assured that “protection of the most vulnerable people is advancing greatly” and that from the following week the vaccinations in the Day Centres will start and be completed, as well as for those people over 90 years and the most vulnerable
