Alcala-Alcossebre Council has already signed up to support the “Punto Violeta Turistico” initiative, through which it will prepare the Tourist Information Office as a space in which assessments can be made for possible victims of domestic violence, directing them towards specialist services, such as the Municipal Social Services and the 24-hour Women’s Centre. These Violet Points will make visitors, tourists and residents facing domestic violence or any type of sexist aggression aware of information and assistance. The service will be available all year in the Alcossebre Tourist Information office and, in the high season, in the other municipal Tourist Information offices. The initiative is an action in conjunction with Valencian Community Tourism and the Valencian Institute for Women, with the participation of the Councils, to reinforce the positioning of the Valencian Community as a safe tourist destination against sexist violence.
Tourism councillor, Selene Blázquez, pointed out that “last year training was carried out for the professionals in the Tourist Offices, giving them certain tools to give initial assistance to possible victims of domestic violence. We thought it was a good idea to increase the resources destined for victims and, therefore, we joined the projects and we promise to continue providing them”. Equality councillor, Melina Fradejas, explains “the importance of all the actions being carried out by the Council, not only those of a social character, are marked by the fight against sexist conduct as is happening on this occasion in which Tourism and Equality are working together”.
The Tourist Offices will show an emblem visible from outside so that possible victims can identify them as safe spaces.
