Alcala-Alcossebre continued with the events organised to commemorate International Women’s Day on 8th March with a workshop around the role of women in local sport, in which pupils from the IES Serra d’Irta took part. The workshop consisted of seeing the video “Invisible Champions”, which deals with the theme of gender equality in sport. Local sportswomen spoke to the participants, explaining their experiences to them regarding this. The sportswomen taking part were Begoña García, handball coach, Soledad Bellver, athlete and Lidia Suñol and Andrea Pegueroles, 5-a-side footballers. Afterwards, the boys and girls were able to share their impressions and ask questions.
Equality councillor, Melina Fradejas, and the Sports councillor, Jordi Batiste, were present at the workshop. Fradejas wanted to thank “the presence and involvement of the local sportswomen, as well as the educational centre, for being able to show to the youngsters how inequality problems are found in all fields and on what we can focus to overcome them”.
On 8th March, on the Council’s social media sites, the YouTube channel and the municipal announcement, a video was shown with the reading of the Manifesto for International Women’s Day by girls from the IES Serra d’Irta and the Equality councillor.
