The new “Poetic Heritage” tourist activity, included in the activities organised by the Alcala-Alcossebre Tourist Department this Holy Week and Easter, will open on Saturday 10th April, at 19.00h, leaving from the Church square.  It will be a guided route through the historic centre part of Alcala de Xivert, and visits the Church square, the bell tower, the Justo Zaragozà square, the Sant Joan square, the modernist houses in the San Fernando street, the Market square and the office.  At certain points on the tour, excerpts from literature are read selected because they are related to the space being visited, through the subject matter, time in history or which is inspirational.  For example, the poem by Rosalía de Castro “Las campanas” (The bells) is recited next to the iconic bell tower; the poem “He mirat aquesta terra” by Salvador Espriu is recited in the Church square; an excerpt from “Ladrón de sábado” by Gabriel García Márquez serves to locate us in the surroundings of the modernist façades in San Fernando street or the poem “Res no m’ha agradat tant” by Vicent Andrés Estelleés serves to bring back to mind the flavour of certain foods in the Market square and the ”Cuento de horror” by Marco Denevi which will be read next to the former prison.  The excerpts are completed with poetry by Elvira Sastre and Gloria Fuertes.  A poem by the local writer Ximo Pitarch will also be read.

“We wanted to take advantage of the great acceptance of the Templar Heritage route to offer a variant, using the same route but enriching it with literary excerpts.  This Holy Week we are starting this new route and we are considering incorporating it in the annual calendar of tourist activities”, Tourism councillor, Selene Blázquez, explained.

To join the walk, you must first make a reservation at the Alcossebre Tourist Office by phone – 964 412 205.
