Work progresses on the new park and green area in Alcala de Xivert

Construction work is progressing at a good pace on the new park and green area in Alcala de Xivert situated in the calle Ferrocarril next to the football pitch and the locality’s southern entrance. During recent weeks the ground has been levelled and filled in and currently it is being compacted to start marking out the garden areas, as well as the paved spaces, kerb construction, etc. and the areas where there will be equipment like the heart apparatus, benches and pergolas. Also being completed is the construction of some new public toilets which will be for the park users. At the same time, work on the design of the large play castle is being carried out by the Municipal Technical Services department. This will be situated in a central space in the park and will bring together various play and exercise apparatus for boys and girls. The design of this space has special diverse elements of the local heritage.
It is projected that the second phase of action will be carried out in the back part of the land, nearer the railway line, with new areas destined for rest, sports, games and leisure destined for all age groups but focussed, above all, on encouraging the youngest children to have contact with nature.
This new park and green area in Alcala are conceived as a coexistence space, with areas aimed at different groups of the population. With its large length it enables planting traditional Mediterranean species, making a green lung within the urban nucleus.
Mayor Francisco Juan pointed out that “as we have been saying since drawing up the project, it is a priority to incorporate open air spaces in our municipality which, like this one, provide an additional attraction and improve the quality of life for our citizens”.
