The Alcala REVIU Plan identifies employment, commerce and the state of housing as what most preoccupy the population
The first phase of the Alcala REVIU Plan citizens participation, the diagnostic questionnaire in which 227 men and women took part, has revealed that the aspects which most preoccupy this sample of the population are employment, commerce and the state of housing
Regarding the profile of the people who took part in the survey, the majority stood out with participation by women at 57.3% of the total whilst the majority of people who carried out the survey by age were in the 30-49 years age group. 79.7% of the participants reside in Alcala, with 13.2% living in Alcossebre and their origins were 51% from the town. It was also noted that 22.9% of the people who participated in the survey are foreigners.
Regarding the general situation in the nucleus, 37% of those surveyed qualified it as “could be improved”. The evaluation of the parking areas was a draw in the results with ‘could be improved’, bad and normal and 30.4% of those surveyed described the business situation as “bad”.
Positive aspects were asked for in the questions for general response, and the most valued by those surveyed are the heritage, the natural resources and the local identity, while the negative aspects emphasised employment and commerce, followed by social cohesion, public space, buildings and services. To the question about what most concerned them in a period of ten years and what served to enable people to express their preferences and priorities in the defining of Alcala in the future, work was insisted upon, social cohesion and public spaces. The question on the prioritised areas on which action should be taken returned to housing, commerce and the environment as well as being the areas which are considered most important or relevant.
Finally, in the question regarding ideas, many proposals were forthcoming, among them the more outstanding were aimed at increasing assistance for the commercial sector, increasing industry and the creation of employment, the refurbishment of homes and the activities and youth leisure.
Mayor Francisco Juan valued it saying that “it has generated interest so that 227 people have participated in these surveys” and he pointed out that “the preoccupations of our residents are also ours and the aim of this Plan is not only to identify the problems and list them but also to give us the necessary tools to focus on how we can resolve them, with the participation of the Council and of other bodies”.
The second phase of the citizen participation phase is to be completed on Monday, 3rd May, with live workshops taking place in the plaza de Les Escoles, in which the results will be announced and the population will continue to be invited to participate in defining all these proposals to finalise them in drawing up the Plan
