Compromis proposes a change in the energy model and support for assistance for personal electricity consumption in Alcala-Alcossebre

[Img #82111]This new proposal for municipal climate action from Compromis, prepared together with the local “Renewables and Sustainables” association, is in addition to previous initiatives from the group which form part of a series of measures, such as for example the Valencian Generalitat’s Plan “Municipis en xarxa”, which has as its principal reference point the European Green Pact or Green Deal, drawn up by the EU in 2019 with the objective of reducing CO? by 55% by 2030.  By aligning itself with this proposition and making it reality, the Compromis spokesperson, María Sorlí, maintains that it is essential to change the current local energy model and bet on renewables, in this way favouring the small consumer and promoting a circular and sustainable economy with zero kilometres.  This plan of action which Compromis wishes to drive forward represents a clear alternative, totally opposed to the macro wind and photovoltaic projects which are currently threatening some districts.  According to recent press publications, there are already projects for two solar parks and one wind park proposed in Alcala, which would not only mean important landscape and environmental deterioration caused by large areas of rural land being occupied remote from the transformation and consumption points, but also opening the way to speculation on rustic land by large financial groups.

To prevent this, the Valencian Institute for Business Competitivity through IVACE energy, has convened the second edition of assistance to drive installations of nearby photovoltaic self-consumption, which is specifically directed to energy communities, communities of owners and councils, financing up to 65% of the cost of the installations for electricity self-consumption by those councils which prioritise renewable or residual energies in a regimen of local energy communities.  These are a key element for energy transition, according to councillor Rafael Climent, as it is now with citizens becoming prosumers, with the capacity to participate actively in the production and management of energy at a local level, thus generating financial, environmental and social benefits in their respective municipalities.

In this way, Sorlí maintains that Alcala has sufficient surfaces to install photovoltaic panels, such as for example plots on the industrial estate, which would have no repercussion on the landscape or environmental degradation of the surroundings.  The Compromis spokesperson believes it is necessary to be positioned and act with speed for a real energy transformation which could benefit everyone and not only a few.  For this Sorlí has presented a proposal for municipal agreement which includes six fundamental points:

  1. Positioning of Alcalà-Alcossebre Council against the photovoltaic and wind macro projects.
  2. Commitment for an immediate change in the energy model based on nearby renewable energies.
  3. Compliance with the agreements in the Plan “Municipis en xarxa” to drive forward renewables and self-consumption, which Alcala-Alcossebre Council has already joined.
  4. Creation of two Municipal Local Energy Communities, one in Alcala and the other in Alcossebre, taking advantage of the assistance from IVACE and synergies with the Generalitat Valenciana.
  5. Petition on behalf of the Alcala-Alcossebre Council to the Generalitat Valenciana, central Government and European Union for a greater drive in the creation of Local Energy Communities and their positioning against the photovoltaic and wind macro projects.
  6. Sending the agreed points to the Generalitat Valenciana, central Government and the European Union.

“To democratise access to energy means increasing the possibilities for sustainable economic growth, creating new employment options and training at a local level, at the same time as improving the quality of life for the present and future for men and women residents”, stated the Compromis spokesperson
