Alcala-Alcossebre Council Sports and Health Departments have used the celebration of the European Health Week to promote the healthy routes in the municipality and which are used for sports practices, such as walking and cycling, above all for the younger members of the population.  In fact, leaders Jordi Batiste and Melina Fradejas accompanied pupils from the Serra d’Irta Secondary School on a cycle ride along the Alcala healthy route, which starts in the San Miguel road sports area and has four different tracks, signed by colours.

The municipality completes its offer of healthy routes with another four circuits in Alcossebre: one of them runs along the sea front, from the lighthouse to the San Miguel river, a distance of 8 kilometres and an estimated time of one and a half hours, with consumption of 536 calories.  The other three circuits are in the Capicorb area, with distances of 5.24 kilometres and estimated time of one hour; 4.32 kilometres and 52 minutes and 3.21 kilometres and 38 minutes.

Signs set up at various points along the routes inform users of where they are and allow them to plan their trips.

The Health and Sports councillors reminded that “the importance of practising sport is encouraging healthy habits” and have recommended taking advantage of the numerous resources our municipality offers to practise sport in the open air, with these healthy routes.
